A Balancing Act
Going from a highschool kid who could care less about doing extracurriculars to being under 2 months into college juggling multiple extra responsibilities, was quite the shift. During my time in highschool getting good grades was LITERALLY the only thing that concerned me. I didn’t plan any spots, I didn’t join any clubs, the closest thing I had to an actual EC was helping my digital video teacher with his photography business for a couple summers.
Moving into college, especially being a transfer student, I knew I had to bring more to the table than just good grades. I’m gonna sound like a brag for a second, but in under 2 months, I… Started a college/business blog with my best friend, scaled a faith based tiktok account to over 8 thousand followers, got a marketing internship with an AI startup, became a marketing/finance volunteer for my church, got a part time job at panda express, and became a member of the Phi Theta Kappa Honors Society.
I’m doing all of this while maintaining a 4.0, going to the gym 5x a week, and maintaining whatever’s left of my social life. Balancing this new lifestyle has been one of the most difficult yet rewarding tasks of my life.
The biggest lesson I’ve learned is that the snowball effect is so powerful. You know those business owners or millionaires who manage to do hundreds of different things? I believe it’s because when productivity is done consistently, it compounds into every aspect of your life. When you start going to the gym, you start to improve your diet and sleep. When your health improves so does your performance in school and work. The success in your fitness and career gives you confidence. This confidence gives you the courage to start new projects. So and so forth.
See how productivity leaks into every other aspect of your life? I used to think if you wanted to accomplish something you needed to hyperfocus on it and neglect the rest. But I found it to be the complete opposite. I’m more locked in on the gym now, than I was a year ago, when I literally had no other responsibilities besides school. Now I’m juggling multiple different things yet I’ve never been so consistent in my entire life.
In all honesty, I’m extremely grateful for the amount of growth I’ve seen in my life these past 2 months. This is the productive lifestyle I always knew I was capable of living, and I’m just getting started. Thanks be to God, I’m going to continue working on all the responsibilities and projects He has blessed me with.
